Duties

To ensure compliance with an applicable preliminary nationwide injunction, which may be supplemented, modified, or vacated, depending on the course of ongoing litigation, the Federal Government will take no action to implement or enforce the COVID-19 vaccination requirement pursuant to Executive Order 14043 on Requiring Coronavirus Disease 2019 Vaccination for Federal Employees. As a Practical Nurse, you will perform the following duties: Provides a range of standard patient care, under the guidance of a Supervisory Nurse Manager Provides daily nursing care as needed in Medical Housing Units (MHU) and notifies Physician, or Advanced practice provider (APP) of any abnormal findings Assesses patients' needs and assists with the development of appropriate nursing care plan to facilitate optimal treatment and outcome Ensures that medical orders are implemented in a timely manner Responds to emergency medical calls as assigned and provides emergency treatment of injury or illness to detainees as directed

  • Must be able to understand, speak, read, and write English fluently. Bilingual communication capability preferred, not required.
  • On-Call: Must be willing to participate in the emergency on-call process, to include duty hours, after duty hours, designated holidays or other times as directed.
  • Work Schedule: Must be able to work rotating shifts including weekends nights and holidays.
  • CPR: Must be able to perform CPR/emergency care standing or kneeling.

Minimum Qualifications:You qualify for the GS-06 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-05 grade level or equivalent public or private sector. Qualifying experience includes nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures, performing duties such as: Providing pre and post-operative patient care Observing, recording, and reporting changes in behavior of mentally ill patients Providing reassurance and encouragement to mentally ill patients Assisting surgeons and registered nurses in operating room activities: including passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions, and draping and positioning patients Setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus License:You must possess a permanent, full, and unrestricted license as a Practical or Vocational nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Licensure must be maintained in a permanent, full, and unrestricted status during term of employment.
