About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency, Naval Hospital, Directoreate of Surgery, OB/GYN Department, Agana Heights, Guam. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Interviews patients for nursing histories, initiates, and updates care plans based on individual patient needs as determined by patient input. Performs antepartum fetal assessments and limited third trimester obstetrical ultrasound for amniotic fluid index scoring in an ambulatory care setting. Assists the provider with patient examinations, performance of diagnostic and minor surgical procedures, and screening of radiographic and laboratory reports. Provides follow-up advice on serious or acute conditions by contacting appropriate resources, i.e. ER, Social/Family Services, Case Management and/or community resources, intervenes effectively in medical emergent situations. Initiates medial emergency procedures, i.e. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and counteractive measures for any reactions which may develop in the clinic.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • IAW BUMEDINST 6220.9B, all personnel, direct and indirect care providers, administrators, ancillary services, volunteers, students, others who may come in contact with patients, must receive/maintain vaccination against seasonal influenza.
  • The incumbent must, as a condition of employment, be immunized on an annual basis against influenza. Refer to local command influenza instruction.
  • This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
  • Applicant must receive a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) fingerprint check and State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) checks.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
  • A job offer to an applicant who is not a current employee subject to this requirement will be withdrawn if the candidate refuses to undergo immunization screening.
  • Employee involved caring for pediatric patients in clinics, inpatient units, and critical care, specialty areas i.e. emergency room, neonatal intensive care, and pediatric intensive care must be additionally trained in PALS.
  • Employee whose primary clinical responsibilities involve caring for newborn infants, i.e., in critical care, specialty areas such as neonatal intensive care, labor and delivery, and pediatric intensive care must be additionally trained in NRP.

  • care, newborn nursery, labor and delivery, postpartum, and pediatric intensive care) must be trained and certified in S.T.A.B.L.E.
  • Employees assigned to or subject to being assigned to duties providing direct patient care, either diagnostic or therapeutic must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • A favorable Tier 3 background investigation is required for all Non-Critical Sensitive (NCS) positions with access to network systems and Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
  • The incumbent may be required to work on any day or shift, including night, weekends, holidays, or on an “on call” basis, necessary to meet mission requirements. In accordance with policy.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 44 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Basic Requirement for Nurse (OB/GYN): Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Education and Experience: Possession of diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in nursing from a professional nursing program and possession of at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or above) which includes providing inpatient nursing care to obstetrical and gynecological patients, assisting physicians with procedures, and administering medications. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Education: Successful completion of two and a half years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading towards a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.
