You will serve as a CHEMIST in the Navy Drug Screening Laboratory (NDSL) of NAVDRUGLAB JAX FL.

Duties

You will operate advanced instrumentation including gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC/MS), liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and/or high throughput mass spectrometry (MS) systems. You will perform required in-house preventative maintenance on all analytical instrumentation including GS/MS, LC-MS/MS and high throughput MS systems. You will prepare Chain-of-Custody documents. You will perform technical reviews to evaluate testing results and determine acceptability of samples based on chromatography and mass spectra.

Qualifications

All applicant muat meet the Basic Requirement: Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. or Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent GS-07 to the grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Performing solid phase extraction, liquid-liquid extraction or other specimen preparation of target compounds from urine; Reviewing test documentation in order to ensure that all specimens are properly handled throughout testing process; Reviewing chain of custody documents to ensure that all analytical procedures performed on specimens are accurately documented; and Evaluating test results to determine acceptability of samples based on immunoassay, chromatography and/or mass spectra. BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position (must be related):

Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree - provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position (must be related).

Successfully completed Two "2" years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree - provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position (must be related).
