Duties

As a SECURITY SPECIALIST you will be responsible for the following duties: The Security Specialist (AT/FP AND PHYSICAL SECURITY) will be responsible for:

  • Employee must obtain and maintain the Interagency Security Committee Certification within a year of placement in this position
  • Incumbent must possess and maintain the legal and personal qualifications to operate automotive-type passenger vehicles.

  • Employee must have obtained and maintain the ATFP Level 2 Certification within the last 3 years.

Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have specialized experience sufficient to demonstrate that you have acquired all the competencies necessary to perform at a level equivalent in difficulty, responsibility, and complexity to the next lower grade GS/GG12 in the Federal service and are prepared to take on greater responsibility. Generally, this would include one year or more of such specialized experience. Specialized experience for this position includes: Interpreting DoD regulations, manuals, and operating instructions for the proper application of AT/FP standards; Developing plans, schedules, timelines and tracking mechanisms to evaluate progress, risks and opportunities in complex security projects and programs; Conducting on-site inspections and written analysis to ensure compliance with ICD 705, DoD Physical Security policy, and secure space construction standards. Interpretation and analysis of threat and vulnerability assessments in the development of applicable physical security measures in support of risk management decisions; Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Specifically you will be evaluated on the following competencies: Communications: Communicate (i.e., written, and oral) rights, responsibilities, management directives, policies, and/or regulations to employees, supervisors, and/or other pertinent individuals. Physical Security: Applies requirements for designing, accrediting, equipping, and securing government and contractor facilities to guard against unauthorized access. Develops and enforces access control regulations and procedures. Security Program Management Accountabilities: Manages security implications (e.g., strategic, personnel, infrastructure, policy enforcement, emergency planning, and other resources) for a program or other area of responsibility. Vulnerabilities Assessment and Management: Conducts assessments on threats and vulnerabilities, determines the level of risk, and develops and recommends appropriate mitigation countermeasures in operational and nonoperational situations. Conducts assessments in a counterintelligence context to protect against espionage, other intelligence activities, and sabotage conducted for or on behalf of foreign powers, organizations or persons, or international terrorist activities. Interpersonal Skills: Develops and maintains effective working relationships, especially in difficult situations. Engages and inspires others. Treats others with courtesy, sensitivity, and respect. Considers and responds appropriately to the needs and feelings of different audiences/ situations/cultures. Actively solicits feedback.
