This position is located in Mojave National Preserve, in the Science and Resource Stewardship Division.

Duties
Duties included:
Develops, directs, and manages programs for the protection of natural and cultural resources over a broad landscape within the park.
Coordinates and collaborates with non-governmental organizations and federal, state and local agencies for the protection of natural and cultural resources of the park and to develop and manage broad regional strategies for multiple shared resources.
Develops and maintains effective working relationships with the park management team, the academic community, other federal, state and local agencies, private organizations, conservation organizations, tribes, and the public.
Manages and supervises a small professional staff of cultural and natural resource specialists to accomplish the Division's goals.
Manages a complex science and resource stewardship program including budget tracking of congressionally appropriated funds and alternative funding.
Qualifications

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS for a Physical Scientist, GS-1301:
Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in physical science, engineering or mathematics that includes 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. You must include a copy of your transcripts at the time of application.

A combination of education and experience that included course work equivalent to a major (i.e., 24 semester hours) in physical sciences and/or a related engineering science; plus, appropriate experience or additional education. The quality of the combination must demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work of this position and is comparable to that normally acquired through the completion of a full four-year course of study with a major as described above. You must include a copy of your transcripts at the time of application.

To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: 1) program management duties developing work plans and schedules, scopes of work, cost estimates, and proposals; 2) administering and tracking project funds and preparing reports; 3) creating and prioritizing short- and long-term goals; 4) managing programs for the protection of park resources including collaborating with non-governmental organizations, federal, state and local agencies; and 5) providing professional advice and support for stewardship of natural and cultural resources. You must include hours per week worked.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Any individual who is currently holding, or has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet time-in-grade requirements (must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent in the Federal service). Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
