The incumbent serves as a Transportation Assistant - Transportation Coordinator acts as primary contact to Veterans for transportation needs. The incumbent works with the Veteran Transportation Service (VTS) Supervisory Mobility Manager for transportation workload forecasting, scheduling design, procedure development, and quality improvement implementation, modification of processes, evaluation, and ongoing operational flow of the Veteran Transportation Services program.
Duties
Acts as a liaison between physicians, patients, in-house motor vehicle operators and vendors for making/coordinating travel arrangements.
Utilizes sound judgment, applying interpretation of regulations to determine the most appropriate and cost-effective means of special mode transportation within the Bay Pines VAHCS are, as well as national and international.
Determines transportation needs for transfers to others states and from other countries.
Ensure that all transportation requests have appropriate medical and administrative documentation and authorization as required by VA directives and manuals and local policy.
Review Special Mode Transportation consults to determine patient eligibility.
Coordinates with a clinical provider to ensure that the means of transportation requested is medically necessary.
Responsible for addressing and closing consults within the designated timeframe.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/16/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: knowledge of electronic medical record software and how to search and navigate records to acquire information, Operating computers, copiers, scanners, fax, calculator, and software programs such as MS Word, Excel and Office or compatible software; Skill in oral and written communication and interpersonal relations, to appropriately and courteously relate to internal and external customers.

Physical Requirements: Incumbent will be exposed to stressful working situations that require a professional attitude and collective reasoning. The incumbent is subject to a high volume of work, the need for accuracy, frequency of interruptions and ever-changing demands due to program changes.
