THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST (BIOMEDICAL EQUIPMENT) (TITLE 5), Position Description Number NGT5863000 and is part of the TN ARMYArmy National Guard. This vacancy is covered by Association of Civilian Technicians (ACT), Chapter 103 (Volunteer Chapter).

Duties

As an EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST (BIOMEDICAL EQUIPMENT), GS-1670-12, you will revise preventative maintenance and calibration cycles based on Army guidance, regulations, manufacturers' literature, and local conditions. Perform software diagnosis to determine failure between software and hardware and corrects system software or application program malfunction. Conduct preventive maintenance (PM) inspections of medical equipment to include visual inspections, electrical safety inspections, calibration, performance verification, parts replacement, and interpretation of PM inspection results to determine whether equipment is safe and operating within manufacturer's specifications. Serve as the automated maintenance system manager for the maintenance operation to include all data files and reports that pertain to medical maintenance services and equipment readiness within the area of responsibility. Develop and update standard operating procedures, system level procedures and work instructions as required, and explain work requirements, methods, policies, and procedures. Repair electronic, pneumatic, electro-mechanical, and mechanical medical equipment to include troubleshooting, identifying source of problem(s), and replacement of defective printed circuit board(s), discrete component(s) or other parts as appropriate. Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
  • This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for a state emergency or disaster declaration.? This designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless approved by the TAG.
  • May be required to travel by car, in military and/or commercial aircraft, and by other means of transportation as appropriate to perform temporary duty assignments.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing. Pre-employment drug testing and participation in random drug testing is a condition of employment.
  • May be required to handle and/or insure proper disposal of hazardous material(s). Requires use of protective/safety clothing/equipment as provided by employer. May be required to lift moderately heavy objects weighing less than 50 pounds.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education, or training which has provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more classes of equipment. The experience must include knowledge of standard shop terminology. A basic knowledge of mechanical principles relating to equipment. Experience must demonstrate the ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical publications. Knowledge is of the type gained from technical training, education, and experience in functions such as repairing, overhauling, maintaining, constructing, or inspecting equipment. Experience using computer and automation systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 1 year equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Experience in managing the function of the work to be performed. Experience which includes leading, directing and assigning work of personnel. Experience developing and recommending policy; organizing and carrying out specific programs, evaluating and recommending changes in methods of operations. Must have experience providing technical guidance and assistance in the type of work or in comparable work of the position to be filled. Experience preparing written communications and oral presentations.
