Duties

Position Description # D1214000 This position is located in the Joint Forces Headquarters-State, Logistics Directorate (J-4), Surface Maintenance Facility. The purpose of this position is to serve as a Small Shop Chief (SSC) with responsibility for the overall operation of a small shop. The position oversees one or more workers who perform work as Machinist, WG-3414-11. Performs the full range of non-supervisory work of the shop. Description of Duties: (1) Serves as a Small Shop Chief performing all of the following tasks: (a) Plans and lays out work to be accomplished in the shop, which is then completed by the individual and lower graded worker(s). (b) Possesses the knowledge and skills found at the journeyman level as well as those required for planning, accomplishing, and maintaining a functional shop maintenance program. (c) Independently determines appropriate maintenance procedures such as how and when the work should be accomplished. Estimates manpower, equipment, and material requirements. (d) Devises and maintains program plans and records, is skilled in surveillance and troubleshooting techniques, and is able to determine maintenance/repair procedures needed without benefit of technical supervisory guidance. (e) Plans, organizes, and directs shop maintenance programs/procedures under general supervision. (f) Determines approaches, methods, and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner. (g) May provide recommendations and input to the supervisor concerning personnel actions such as performance appraisals, awards, position description changes, disciplinary actions, leave, etc. (2) Performs the same type and level of work as performed within the unit. (3) Performs other duties as assigned.

• This is an excepted service position that requires membership in military assignment in WV's National Guard, and is required prior to the effective date of placement.
• Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

• Male applicants born after 12/31/1959 and are required to register under the Military Selective Service Act, the Defense Authorization Act of 1986 requires that you be registered, or you are not eligible for appointment in this agency.
• Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Required to obtain and maintain a satisfactory security clearance, AND, as a minimum, a completed National Agency Check (NAC) prior to assignment.

MINIMUM MILITARY GRADE: E-5 MAXIMUM MILITARY GRADE: E-7 Your rank MUST be included somewhere within your resume. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with a basic knowledge of machining processes. Must have the ability to use drill presses, shapers, planers, and other types of associated machine tools. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 18 months experience or training performing the full range of machining operations on most types of conventional or CNC machine tools and their various attachments. Experience or training in planning and lay out work from blueprints, worksheets and other drawings that may have missing or incorrect information. Skill in applying shop mathematics in establishing needed dimensions, such as those required for chasing threads or machining angular surfaces; locating and marking surfaces and angles to be machined. Skill in programming machining operations, setting up and operating CNC machine tools. Knowledge of and ability to apply advanced shop mathematics such as geometric and trigonometric formulas to make computation for laying out work, machining pieces at unusual or compound angles, determining gear ratios pitch, angles and other similar exact or precision dimension.
