The incumbent serves as a Locksmith for the Facilities Management Service, Building Maintenance Unit.
Duties
Duties of the position include but are not limited to:
Installs, adjusts & maintains a variety of commercially manufactured locking devices.
Modifies & reworks mechanical locking device components of complete security.
Interprets technical manuals & specifications when testing & repairing locking mechanisms.
Fabricates parts when they are not available in stocks, reshapes parts & performs grinding & filing.
Assist carpenters, maintenance mechanics in installation, repair/maintenance of all types of doors.
Cuts Keys and maintains database for key tracker.
Work Schedule: 7:00am- 3:30pm Monday- Friday, per organizational needs

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Seldom does the position require lifting or carrying of items weighing in excess of twenty five pounds. Incumbent frequently stands, stoops, bends, kneels and works in awkward positions when installing and opening locks and emergency exit hardware on site. Incumbent may be required to lift security containers weighing up to fifty pounds and heavier with assistance.
Working Conditions: Work is normally done inside in areas that are well lighted, heated, and ventilated. Occasionally work is done outside in bad weather or in areas that are drafty and poorly lighted. Incumbent faces the possibility of exposure to cuts, bruises and scrapes. There is the potential for burns while using acetylene torches, brazing torches and soldering irons.
