This position is located in the Housekeeping Branch of the Four Corners Regional Health Center, Red Mesa, Arizona. Shiprock Service Unit, Shiprock, New Mexico. The Housekeeping Aid is responsible for the maintenance of environmental sanitation as well as visual cleanliness throughout the hospital facility. This position reports to the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor.

Duties

Vacuum, dust and mop floors, stairways, corridors, wards, utility rooms, offices, employee lounges, bathrooms and other assigned areas; polish and buff floors, strip and reapply floor sealer as necessary; wash walls and window and glass partitions; replenish paper supplies and soap dispensers. Cleans patient rooms using proper antiseptic techniques; empty waste baskets, and trash containers. Receives hospital linen deliveries; maintain a system of linen distribution; ensure quality of laundering are met; on occasional may mend or repair linen; collect soiled linen and deliver to laundry or disposal area. Uses prescribed protective cleaning procedures in isolation areas, follows strict procedures to prevent cross-contamination Must follow prescribed safety procedures to avoid creation of hazard to patients, visitors and hospital personnel. Perform duties, specific area of the facility have different cleaning procedures; therefore, employees are trained in all these special areas on a rotational basis of two weeks.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Candidates for this position will be evaluated under the federal wage system job grading standards. No specific length of experience is required. Applicants will be rated on the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. WG-02: Must be able to perform the following duties without more than normal supervision: vacuuming, sweeping, mopping floors, washing walls and windows and disposing of trash/waste. Physical Effort: Moderate to heavy physical effort is required continuously in the performance of manual cleaning tasks. Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing 40-50 pounds. Use of heavy powered cleaning equipment is required. Working Conditions: The incumbent will work indoors and on occasion outdoors in areas that normally have adequate heat, light and ventilation. Occasionally, the Housekeeping Aid is exposed to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions and to injuries due to falls from ladders and risk of exposure to contagious diseases, infections, fumes, airborne particles, radiation and caustic chemicals. The Housekeeping Aid is required to follow universal precautions in the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when a task warrants the use. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
