Duties

The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for a Optometrist at the East Liverpool VA Clinic. The Optometrist will function within Surgical Service. The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is currently seeking a full time Optometrist for the the East Liverpool VA Clinic with coverage to neighboring clinics as directed. The East Liverpool Optometry Clinic is manned with full-time Optometric Technician support and equipped with state-of-the art technology, including a Humphry Field Analyzer, Zeiss Cirrus OCT and Zeiss Clarus widefield retinal imaging. The primary responsibilities of the Optometrist include: Clinical care of veterans including primary eye care, diabetic and macular degeneration monitoring, medical management of glaucoma, and comprehensive ocular health assessment related to systemic diseases. High-level understanding of optical coherence tomography interpretation for monitoring retinal disease and glaucoma. Ordering diagnostic imaging and laboratory studies; preparing referrals for diagnosis, treatment, and management of systemic and ocular conditions revealed through optometric examination; patient and family health education. Emergency care (triaging, evaluating, and managing urgent eye conditions) Participating in quality assurance and improvement activities and assumes additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chief of Optometry Section. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Virtual (Hybrid): The Incumbent is required to report to Louis Stokes VA Medical Center at Community Based Operational Clinic East Liverpool. This position will be considered hybrid/virtual as required by the Service. Travel: Occasional Travel will be required 50% or less of the time.

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of Doctor of Optometry resulting from a course of education in optometry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools or colleges approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: 1) United States and Canadian schools or colleges of optometry listed as accredited by the Council on Optometric Education of the America Optometric Association, in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed; 2) schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a Stare, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice optometry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G5, Optometrist Qualification Standard. Physical Requirements: The Physical Requirements of this position are concerned with the mental and physical ability of the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the proposed assignment and may include requisite laboratory and other screening as required by Federal regulatory agencies.
