As a Pathways intern you will participate in a program which facilitates the college-to-career transition by providing opportunities in a variety of career tracks. As a Student Trainee (Legal), you will be provided with a wide variety of practical, real-world opportunities and experience working under the supervision of attorneys in the Office of Legal Services.
Duties
As a Student Trainee Legal Assistant, you will:
1. Perform research, writing, analysis, and other duties designed to provide exposure to, and experience in the application of legal and administrative principles and processes.
2. Obtain available information and documents necessary for resolution by the paralegal specialist and attorneys.
3. Proofread and cite check memoranda and other legal documents.
4. Maintain and organize legal documents, including, but not limited to inter-agency agreements, using web-based applications.
5. Review, summarize and monitor proposed federal and District of Columbia legislation.
6. Develop and/or provide training.
7. Perform a variety of technical and administrative duties in support of the office.
Qualifications
To be eligible for the Pathway's Internship Programs, applicants must meet the following requirements below:
Be at least 18 years of age; AND
A student accepted for enrollment or enrolled in an accredited high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate; AND
In good academic standing maintaining a 2.0 or higher-grade point average (GPA) on a cumulative basis; AND
In addition to the requirements above, to qualify for the GS-2 grade level, you must have at least three (3) months of general experience; or be a high school graduate or equivalent. General experience is defined as any type of work experience that demonstrates your ability to perform the work of the position. Examples of general work experience include: answering and referring telephones calls to the appropriate staff, maintaining and organizing documents, and using computer software.

PASS/FAIL COURSES: If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) was taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.
If you are claiming education as any part of your qualification for this position, you must submit an official transcript, unofficial transcript, or a list including courses, grades earned, completion dates, and quarter semester hours earned. If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program.
