This is a Secretary (Office Automation) job opportunity at the Atlanta VA Medical Center in Atlanta, GA.
Duties
The Secretary (OA) will serve as the primary clerical and administrative support position for one or more organizational service lines at the Atlanta VA Medical Center. The nature and variety of the duties and responsibilities will depend on the needs of the service line being served. Duties to include:
Performing office automation duties using Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Typing correspondence from rough drafts, notes, oral instructions, and/or original composition; reviewing correspondence for procedural and grammatical accuracy.
Providing general clerical mail and correspondence services such as preparing recurring reports, reviewing ongoing correspondence for proper attachments, and/or consolidating/coordinating submittal of information.
Scheduling appointments, coordinating meetings and travel arrangements, and providing general calendar maintenance.
Attending meetings and/or conferences, recording information being presented, and typing meeting minutes for dissemination.
Ordering supplies and equipment through appropriate channels.
Maintaining extensive filing system, including correspondence, meeting minutes, memos, etc.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 5:00PM

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/08/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade at any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet the Time-In-Grade requirement by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-8 grade position, you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-7 grade.The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that demonstrates your Time-In-Grade eligibility must be submitted with your application. If your most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate that you possess one year of Time-In-Grade, as required by this job announcement. In that instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that demonstrates the one year Time-In-Grade requirement has been met. Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
Specialized Experience Requirement: To qualify for this position at the GS-8 grade, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade GS-7 that is directly related to the work of this position. Examples of specialized experience include:
Performing clerical/administrative duties in an office environment;
Answering and directing phone calls;
Maintaining files/records;
Using a computer to prepare correspondence and other clerical tasks;
Using Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Typing Proficiency Requirement: In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement, applicants must also self-certify that they possess at minimum 40 words per minute typing speed proficiency. Applicants may meet this requirement either by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to issue such certificates, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. VA may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test.

Physical Requirements: The work of this position is primarily sedentary. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts, etc.
