The incumbent has full responsibility of the Central Plant Unit of Facility Management Service (FMS). He/she has the responsibility to ensure effective, most efficient, and most economical accomplishment of assigned tasks through utilization of procedures, general instructions, and established policies.

Duties

Duties include but are not limited to: Responsible for scheduled, regular, and emergency repair, maintenance, and assignment of work to be done on the Medical Center Boiler and Chiller Plants. Plans weekly and monthly work schedules and coordinates shop assignments and sequences of the Central Plant Unit. Coordinate assigned projects with other unit supervisors and section chiefs within this service and higher-level supervisors and/or service chiefs of other services affected by station level projects. Determine how many assignments can be done concurrently or which may be delayed, depending on the availability of skilled personnel. Evaluate resources requirements to accomplish proposed work projects or programs in relation to resources committed to ongoing or previously planned work schedules. Participate with higher level management in the initial planning of current and future work projects schedules, budget requests, staffing needs, estimates, and advise on the feasibility of work schedules, budget estimates, and workload data to assist in determining long range work requirements. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/16/2024. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The majority of work is administrative in nature, but incumbent may occasionally work from ladders, platforms on scaffolding and with equipment that is often in hard to reach places. Job requires the ability to stoop, stand and kneel. Works indoors and occasionally outdoors, sometimes on top of buildings; may be subject to extremes of temperature, work in areas of cramped quarters. Occasionally subject to toxic fumes requiring the wearing of protective devices including uncomfortable respirators. Noise level is often high, sometimes mandating the use of ear plugs. May be exposed to unpleasant odors and the possibility of burns, cuts, bruises and scrapes.
