Duties
Supervises a team of permanent and temporary workers who are responsible for the daily maintenance of a multi-purpose reservoirs projects and the operation of flood control dams and a levee system.
Responsible for employee selection and training and development, management-employee relations, equal employment opportunities, scheduling, and approving leave for subordinates.
Operates two multi-purpose projects to maintain reservoir elevations in accordance with the project operations manual to maintain safe stream flows downstream.
Knowledge of the physical, engineering, equipment, operational characteristics of facilities, safety, or equipment development designed to support flood risk management, environmental stewardship, or recreation activities.
Maintains structures, buildings, roads, and grounds utilizing various trade practices and materials for safety and aesthetic value.
Conducts or direct regular and periodic inspections of dams, levee and appurtenant structures, and buildings noting discrepancies or need for maintenance or repair services.
Expresses information to individuals or groups to successfully complete all operations and maintenance tasks and work orders.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must lift and move objects weighing 50 pounds.
- Incumbent will be required to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Incumbent will be on call 24 hours per day and may be called in on short notice.
- Incumbent is required to wear a Corps of Engineers uniform.
- Required to obtain and maintain a USACE Motorboat Operators License.
- Required to maintain a valid, State-issued Driver's License.
- Required to obtain and maintain First Aid Certification.
- Required to obtain and maintain a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification.
- A pre-employment physical is required for this position.
- This position requires participation in the Department of Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program to include passing a urinalysis drug testing prior to appointment and passing random urinalysis drug testing thereafter.
- The duties of this position require travel up to approximately 25% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications: Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor, WS-4749-10 performing tasks such as 1) Overseeing the planning and programming for maintenance activities; 2) Establishing and maintaining a maintenance management program; and 3) Scheduling and performing inspections of the grounds and facilities to determine condition, operational readiness, and major maintenance required for completion of the flood control mission. Failure to meet these screen outs will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbent spends approximately 50% of the time working outside in all types of weather. The incumbent is subject to the hazards associated with working in and around wooded areas, lakes and rivers. All safety rules and regulations will be followed, and all work must meet these requirements. Exerts heavy physical effort frequently lifting and moving objects weighing over 50 pounds.
Education
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
