About the Position: This position is located at the 42nd Medical Group, in Maxwell, Alabama.
This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.
Prefer candidate have American Society of Clinical Pathology MLT certification.
OR
1 year of on-the-job experience in phlebotomy and 30 successful blood draws during initial training.
Duties
Collect blood from patients for laboratory testing.
Recognize and notate unusual patient conditions that may cause erroneous test results.
Maintain strict safety and infection control procedures and regulations and report any observed or identified violations in accordance with established guidelines.
Review specimen collection operating instructions to ensure they are current and meet the guidelines established by the College of American Pathologists.
Enter patient demographics into the Electronic Health Record for cytology, histology, and clinical specimens shipped to reference labs for examination or testing.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
- Must be able to work efficiently under stressful working conditions.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification through the American Red Cross.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting laboratory testing and examinations; inputting and/or retrieving data to prepare reports of findings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
