The Veterans Health Administration (VHA), at the Phoenix VA Health Care System in the Environmental Management Service (EMS) is recruiting a Housekeeping Aid Supervisor. The primary purpose of the position is to serve as supervisor for one or more Environmental Health Teams comprised of Housekeeping Aids.
Duties
Duties of the position include but are not limited to:
The Supervisor implements, coordinates and controls a comprehensive environmental sanitation and infection control program which is responsive to the medical center's needs and is based upon standards of infection control and cleanliness. Must be familiar and aware of the types of infectious agents that his or her personnel may potentially encounter.
Responsible to supervise Housekeeping Aids in a variety of healthcare settings including but not limited to Operating Rooms, Medical Laboratories, Inpatient Medical Wards, Isolation Rooms and Emergency Department.
Carries out the Veterans Health Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Center (CDC) transmission precautions recommendations for, entering and exiting and cleaning/disinfecting isolation rooms and in accordance with facility policy.
Ensure that all Housekeeping Aids follow proper cleaning and disinfecting techniques for maintaining an aseptically clean and aesthetically pleasing environment and Cleaning Non-Critical Medical Equipment as well as for the protection and safety of patients and staff.
Ensures that all staff follow safety directives and policies at all times.
Provides technical guidance to Housekeeping Aids in accordance with regulations and directives on the handling of Occupational hazards associated with handling infectious waste, disinfecting contaminated surfaces, and responding to infectious materials incidents.
Responsible for the overall floor maintenance program.
Provides technical and supervisory guidance on operations of, upkeep of, and accountability of mounted and unmounted healthcare environmental equipment.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours a week, 1st shift 7:30 am - 4:00 pm

Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, Ability to Lead or Supervise. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Related experience includes: acting as a lead/supervisor or overseeing housekeeping duties in a commercial environment; performing housekeeping duties; providing training to employees on procedures, techniques, and equipment and supply usage; promoting safety and compliance with policies and procedures concerning health, safety, and infection control; performing inspections to ensure housekeeping duties/projects are completed sufficiently and efficiently; making evaluations/observations of employee performance.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
