This position is in the Education and Community Involvement Branch (ECIB) with the Division of Genomics and Society (DGS) of the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI). The ECIB is responsible for advising the institute director and senior staff on a broad range of issues regarding public engagement and community involvement matters, developing and implementing public education programs, evaluating public education activities, and coordinating public education initiatives.

Duties

Trains or arranges for the training of team members in methods and techniques of team building and working in teams to accomplish tasks and implement projects. Serves as coach, facilitator and/or negotiator in coordinating team initiatives and in consensus building activities among team members. Initiates, and plans international, national, and regional workshops, seminars, and conferences for purposes of gaining support of and advancing health education programs. Develops relationships and partnership programs with teachers, school administrators, education policy makers, youth services providers, community advisors, and other relevant stakeholders with a focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Evaluates and revises nationwide science public education materials following intensive testing, data collection, surveys, and feedback from communities. Develops, implements, and optimizes workflow systems and process improvement practices. Manages overall budget and acquisitions, strategically tracking trends in expenditures, forecasting spending trends, and troubleshooting discrepancies. Oversees the development of technical data, estimates, statistics, suggestions, and other information useful to higher level managers in determining which goals and objectives to emphasize.

Qualifications

Basic Qualification Requirements: In order to qualify for a Lead Education Outreach Specialist, GS-0601, position you must have successfully completed a full 4 year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. (This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained). Additional Qualification Requirements: In order to qualify for a Lead Education Outreach Specialist, GS-0601-14, position you must have at least 1 year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: lead the development and implementation of action plans aligned with strategic goals for scientific educational outreach programs; mentoring or leading other staff members in scientific outreach and community involvement; collaborate with others in the field to develop public education programs and materials that focuses on diversity and inclusion; and create educational materials, fact sheets, web-based resources to support scientific or genomics education. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
