You will serve as an Assistant in the Office of Counsel at Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Keyport, Washington (NAVUNSEAWARCENDIV KEYPORT WA).

Duties

You will provide clerical legal, general administrative and docketing support to Patent Counsel. You will analyze written communications from the United States Patent and Trade Office (USPTO) to effectively support Patent Counsel during the prosecution of patent applications. You will prepare administrative paperwork to accompany substantive filings with the USPTO in accordance with Title 37 of the Code of Federal Regulations. You will schedule, program manage and compile data from the monthly invention review meetings. You will prepare and organize required patent application filing exhibits such as declarations, powers-of-attorney, assignments, licenses, drawings, prior art, claims, fee calculations, Information Disclosure Statements, data sheets, and charts. You will verify citations and legal references on prepared legal documents including invention disclosures, patent applications, non-disclosure agreements, and responses. You will initiate and compose standardized legal documents needed for specific legal actions. You will maintain a docketing database as well as a local “desk docket” of pending matters.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

For NG-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NG-03 pay band (GS-7/8 grade level equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Performing clerical work to support legal programs. Examples of Qualifying Experience may include preparing and filing patent applications and legal documents; demonstrated understanding of intellectual property matters. For NG-03: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NG-02 pay band (GS-5/6 grade level equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Performing basic clerical work supporting legal programs, such as preparing and filing legal documents.
