About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency. It is located within the Clinical Support Division at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Eisenhower in Augusta, Georgia. The primary purpose is to prepare and cook a variety of menu items to support all main line, short order, regular and modified diet entrees, as well as specialty and dessert items to support the entire cook team in the area of operation.
Duties
Work alone to prepare and cook a variety of menu items to support all main line, short order, regular and modified diet entrees, as well as specialty and dessert items to support the entire cook team in the area of operation.
Use written standardized recipes and computerized food production worksheets.
Read recipes and prepare special diet food in accordance with patient tray service needs.
Follow safety procedures while performing all duties to avoid personal injury or damage to equipment.
Ensure food preparation follows infection control and food spoilage control procedures.
Clean and maintain equipment and work areas in sanitary conditions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A favorable National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) may be required for this position.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with regulations.
- Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make ever attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekend, holiday, or special situations. Employees shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Cook ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties in preparing and cooking a variety of menu items to include regular, modified diet, and dessert items. I can perform a full range of cooking to include frying, baking, broiling, and grilling, roasting, braising and sautéing. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Cooks perform work requiring continual standing and walking with frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling and bending. Cooks frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally lift over 40 pounds with assistance.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Kitchens are well lighted but often hot and noisy. Work requires exposure to: steam, fumes and odors; soiling of hands and clothing; extreme cold temperatures of freezers and refrigerators and heat of cooking equipment and ovens. There is danger of slipping on wet or soiled floors. Cooks are subject to cuts from knives or other equipment and subject to burns from steam, scalding, hot foods, or grease.
