Requirements

  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Continued employment in this position is contingent upon satisfactory completion of the mandatory training specifically identified for the position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the Government Travel Credit Card (GTC) as a condition of employment.
  • Must possess a valid PR state driver’s license to operate government motor vehicle in accordance with Service specific Vehicle Operations Directives.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance for the position within one year of appointment.
  • Irregular and overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a current Network License according to Army or Air Force Directives, Licensing Network Users and Certifying Network Professionals.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Selectee must maintain current license as a Registered Nurse, certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, annual training, an N-95 or fitted gas mask respirator if indicated by site hazards.
  • Selectee must be medically fit to wear respiratory protection and protective clothing and Annual assessments for immunization status and ability to wear respirator if indicated.
  • Position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will participate in drug urinalysis testing, unless currently occupying a TDP within the DoD.

DUTIES: As a NURSING (OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH) (NGT5155P01), GS-0610-12, you will manage a comprehensive Occupational Health Program for the state. Serves as the Joint Force Headquarters - State (JFHQ-ST) Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) consultant and principal advisor to the Adjutant General (TAG) on occupational health initiatives. Plans, develops, and analyzes the occupational health nursing services provided to National Guard personnel throughout the state. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work frequently involves extended periods of walking, standing, stooping, bending or crouching in confined spaces in and around facilities and operating equipment, carrying moderately heavy safety protective equipment, and carrying laptop computers, books and supplies during surveys, inspections and while in travel status. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous situations requiring a range of safety and health precautions. The incumbent is required to visit industrial locations. The wearing of protective equipment and clothing are required when entering certain areas. Other discomforts related to the work environment include exposure to inclement weather, heat, cold, and chemicals. Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). 2. Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. 3. Applicants must have an Undergraduate Degree in Health Administration, Health Care Administration (or equivalent), Health Care Management, Health Management and Policy, Health Services Administration (or equivalent), Hospital Administration (or equivalent), or related fields such as, Primary Care Management, and Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN/RN), Biology, or microbiology. Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN/RN) or Biology. Other completed degrees are acceptable in Public Health, Entomology, Microbiology, Zoology, Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering and Health Management/Health Systems Engineering, Operations Research, or other closely-related degree fields. -OR- Certification as an Occupational Health Nurse or a Graduate Degree in Public Health (MPH/MSPH) with a bachelor's degree in a biological science. Other educational options are a Master's in Health Administration, Health Care Administration, Health Care Management, Health Management and Policy, Health Services Administration (or equivalent), or Hospital Administration. A Master's degree or equivalent in public health, and one year of graduate medical education completed in a clinical specialty at a hospital acceptable to the Surgeon General, HQ Army or HQ Air Force is strongly recommended. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicantmust possess at least ONE (1) year at next lower-level GS-09 or the equivalent THIRTY-SIX (36) months of specialized experience performing or supervising duties such as establishing, managing, and maintaining a comprehensive Occupational Health Program; planning, developing, analyzing, and reviewing occupational health nursing services and program requirements; formulating, analyzing revising, and implementing policies, procedures and best practices; serving as a liaison between all State, NGB and Federal organizations; ensuring all personnel are physically, mentally and psychologically suited for work in field operations and the industrial workplace; serving as the technical expert on occupational health related matters; providing expert advice against adverse effects of health hazards; planning for and the execution of state occupational health and industrial hygiene programs; analyzing and recommending solutions to complicated problems related to health systems; briefing senior leaders on related subjects; planning, organizing, directing, budgeting, coordinating and evaluating operations, work processes, human-machine interactions and environmental conditions; providing occupational health services and medical treatment for non-occupational and occupational health illnesses and injuries; assessing environmental exposures through surveillance and monitoring work situations; preparing and submitting reports of findings and recommendations; establishing quality improvement monitoring systems and evaluating criteria. participating in epidemiological investigations of hazard exposures; conducting and overseeing worksite visits. -AND- As a Supervisory PositionMUST have at least TWELVE (12) months of experience in mentoring, leading, and managing people and occupational health business; directing, and assigning tasks and projects to personnel; supervising the work, motivating, inspiring, equal employment and affirmative action programs.
