Serve as a Health Care Education Specialist at the Miami VA Healthcare System. Miami VAHCS is a complexity Level 1a Facility and provides extensive primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary care in outpatient, inpatient, residential, and community settings. The primary function of this position is to identify, develop, coordinate, evaluate, and implement educational programs at the Bruce W Carter Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Duties

The incumbent serves as Health Care Education Coordinator manages the facility Veterans Health Education and Information Program (VHEI). This results in an evidence based, Veteran-centered facility VHEI Program that support facility goals and objectives, and meets the needs of Veterans, their family members/caregivers, and clinical staff and is administratively responsible for the following requirements: Functions as the designated focal point, coordinator, advocate, and liaison for all Veterans and family health education programs, and activities; serves as the facility content expert in health education. Works with facility management to ensure that the VHEI Program contributes to the facility's mission, goals, and objectives. Demonstrates leadership, experience, and creative approaches to the management, delivery and sustainment of the VHEI Program. Provides consultation and training to interdisciplinary staff members regarding health education theory and practice, evidence-based health education interventions and skills, and health education program development to assure that Veterans health education programs, activities, and services are Veteran- centered and meet quality standards. Serves as the principal point of contact for all Veterans health education communications and reporting within the facility. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. with flexible tour Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/07/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-09. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. Individual Occupational Requirements (Basic Requirements):You MUST meet the Basic Requirements and the Minimum Qualifications to qualify for this Health Care Education Specialist position. Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position. OR, Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above. In addition to meeting the above requirements, you may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-09 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: providing primary technical and administrative supervision to the subordinate staff, performing work in the development of courses for training programs and specific course content, arranging seminars and conferences, and developing educational programs and projects. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond a master's degree. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:Critical ThinkingEmployee DevelopmentHuman Capital ManagementOrganizational Performance Analysis Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: No special physical demands are required to carry out the job. The average physical ability, dexterity and strength is required to perform the work. Much of the work is sedentary and the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. There may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving of an automobile, etc. Some field work may involve traveling to interviews, meeting and sources of information.
