Located at the VA Medical Center in Wilmington, Delaware, the primary purpose of this position is to provide Health Care Aid at the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). The position is responsible for delivering a broad array of health care services throughout the Medical Center, and its various locations that provide patient care. The Health Aid is also responsible for performing selected resident transports to different areas such as, x-rays, CT Scan, MRI, and other related areas.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major duties and responsibilities include: Transporting patients to areas throughout the medical center Maintains general cleanliness of the inpatient/resident's environment Carries records, reports, laboratory specimens, x-rays, prosthetic equipment and patient prescriptions to designated areas, excluding control substance Collects urine, stool, sputum and other specimens for Laboratory analysis Recognizes and institutes appropriate action in emergency situations such as performing CPR, Heimlich maneuver for choking, seizure precautions and safety during seizures, and emergency first aid Establishes and promotes effective interpersonal relationships and communications with inpatients/residents, families and others Maintains safe and sanitary environment for inpatients/residents, staff and visitors Performs other related duties as assigned DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received. ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. ~AND~ To qualify for this position, you must meet one of the following: EXPERIENCE: At least six (6) months of general experience. General experience is (1) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area the occupation. General experience includes providing assistance in a healthcare or other patient care or personal care environment. ~OR~ EDUCATION: Successful completion of one (1) full year of education above high school level that included study in medical, health, or related fields. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. Physical Requirements: Requires extensive periods of standing and walking, regular and recurring bending, lifting (not to exceed 35 pounds), reaching, carrying, stooping, stretching, and similar activities. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
