Duties

The Superintendent has full responsibility for the management, administration, public relations, resource management, visitor protection, interpretation, natural resources management, visitor services, maintenance, security, and continued development of the area. The authority to manage Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial (PEVI) is delegated by the Superintendent, Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The PEVI Superintendent manages the area in accordance with legislation authorizing the establishment of PEVI and all laws, regulations, and policies applicable to managing a unit of the National Park System. PEVI was established in 1936 to honor those who fought in the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812 and to celebrate the long-lasting peace between Britain, Canada, and the United States obtained through arbitration and disarmament. Area Information Park Housing maybe available. PEVI is a 25-acre site located at Put-in-Bay, Ohio on South Bass Island in western Lake Erie. The only commercial access to South Bass Island is by ferry or plane from April to November. Annually, approximately 150,000 visitors have the opportunity to take the elevator to the top of the 352-foot Monument. On the park grounds there is visitor center, ranger station, administrative office, maintenance facility, and nine park housing units. Services in Put-In-Bay include a bank, churches, EMS services, grocery store, gas station, K-12 school, library, police, restaurants, and shops. Other services are located on the mainland in Port Clinton and nearby Sandusky. Park housing may be available. Additional Information: If you choose to live on the mainland your commute and employment time may exceed 11 hours/day plus driving time to your residence. Ferry Passes on the Miller Boat Line will be approximate $480/year. Physical Demands: The work of this position has no unusual physical demands. However, extended workdays and occasional evening and weekend contacts are inherent. The work is normally sedentary in an office or similar setting, but occasionally requires work under difficult and stressful conditions demanding physical stamina, emotional stability, and knowledgeable responses. Occasional travel is required. Working Conditions: Work is largely performed at the park in an office setting with visits to other sites associated with the park. Inspection of the work sites and park resources may involve traversing on level, sloped, or uneven ground with some stair or ladder-climbing.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-02/16/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. To qualify for this position at the GS-13 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities with an in-depth knowledge of park management principles, practices, techniques, laws, and regulations. Experience includes a variety of duties such as managing and supervising park or similar activities with an emphasis on natural management and protection, cultural and resource preservation and protection, visitor use and interpretation, law enforcement, maintenance of physical facilities and administrative programs. You must include hours per week worked on your resume. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
