You will serve as a Boilermaker Leader in the AOPS/DAOPS, Utilities and Energy Management division of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC. Open to PW65 ONLY

Duties

You will maintain, troubleshoot, and repair firesides and watersides of water tube and firetube natural gas and fuel oil fired boilers within power and heating boiler plants. You will repair tubes (removing, plugging, window patching, bending, expanding and installing) in boilers and heat exchangers. You will utilize tools and equipment associated with the job, including but not limited to die and disk grinders, belling tool, hydrostatic test equipment, tube expander, tube cutter, tube collapsing tool, tube puller, and tube crimper. You will install, maintain, and repair boiler refractory. You will perform maintenance repairs on burners. You will exercise boiler plant and machinery safety and associated hazards of working in boiler plants.

Requirements

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current and valid state motor vehicle operator's permit.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to receive confined space training prior to assuming duties that require entry into a confined space.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You may be assigned to a similar position at any site within NAVFAC Midlant area.
  • This position is designated as ALPHA and you will be required to report in emergencies and inclement weather.
  • You may be called upon to serve as a Gas Free Technician or Qualified Person.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing firesides and watersides of water tube and firetube natural gas and fuel oil fired boilers within power and heating boiler plants; 2) Repairing tubes (removing, plugging, window patching, bending, expanding and installing) in boilers and heat exchangers; 3) Utilizing tools and equipment associated with the job, including but not limited to die and disk grinders, belling tool, hydrostatic test equipment, tube expander, tube cutter, tube collapsing tool, tube puller, tube crimper, tube end facing tool, air lance, and oxyacetylene torch cutting; 4) Installing, maintaining, and repairing boiler refractory; 5) Performing maintenance repairs of burners; 6) Exercising boiler plant and machinery safety and associated hazards of working in boiler plants.
