You will serve as a Pipefitter in the Production Division, Utilities and Energy Branch Operations (PRC322) of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will install, modify and repair new and existing high-pressure piping systems and equipment such as steam heating and hydraulic systems, steam generators, flash and expansion tanks, condensate, vacuum and circulating pumps, and radiators. You will work from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out the routing, placement, pitch, elevation, pressure reduction, expansion, and operation of various piping systems and equipment. You will join, seal, and test systems and equipment for proper pressures, leak-free joints, and operation. You will install risers, flexible branches, expansion joints, pumps, gauges, and pressure regulators in the combination needed to support the pressures of the systems.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • Incumbent shall obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) as requested in order to utilize certain types of heavy equipment that are necessary to support pipefitting related tasks.
  • May be required to serve on-call duty on a rotational basis. Incumbent is required to carry a duty sell phone and duty pager and must remain available to respond on site to after hour emergencies within two hours.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination and annually thereafter.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Incumbent will be required to be in the respiratory protection program and wear a respirator to ensure personal safety.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Assisting in installing, modifying, repairing and testing new and existing utility, supply and disposal systems, sewage, water, oil, gas distribution systems; 2) Assisting with planning, laying out and installing piping systems and equipment from blueprints, sketches, etc.; 3) Assisting with the use of a variety of tools and equipment. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
