This position is located in Arches National Park, in the Visitor & Resource Protection Division. The primary purpose of the position is to provide orientation and information to assist visitors in making choices during their visit.

Duties

Serves as a front line representative of the park typically performing duties at a visitor center, campground, other contact stations, or roving locations throughout the park. Responsibilities include providing current and accurate information to visitors concerning the park area and surrounding areas of interest, and answering a wide variety of visitor questions related to the areas historical, cultural, or natural site significance and preservation. Provide a wide range of services to visitors such as assisting those who have lost personal items; administering first aid to injured visitors and performing emergency medical treatment to current level of training and responsibility. Gather information from reporting parties concerning accidents/incidents within the park are and notifying appropriate personnel for further action when necessary. Conduct backcountry patrols serving as a deterrent to resource impacts and infractions by engaging in visitor interactions and providing area specific knowledge to the public. Perform minor maintenance duties to ensure clean, safe, and pleasurable visitation experiences for the public. Physical Demands: The work may require standing or sitting for long periods of time, walking for long distances, climbing and descending steep inclines, traversing uneven terrain, bending, and lifting moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to the high volume of personal contacts, occasional emergency responses, and repetitive nature of some of the tasks. Working Conditions: The work environment can vary considerably dependent upon the specific park or park unit involved. Work may be accomplished in a typical office setting, or outside where the incumbent may be exposed to extreme weather conditions, steep and uneven terrain, and/or hazards such as heavy vehicle traffic. This permanent Career-Seasonal position, is subject to non-pay up to 6 pay periods each year, scheduled between early November to late January. Career-Seasonal appointments include the same benefits as year-round Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-02/12/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: This experience includes activities such as: providing orientation and information to assist visitors in making choices during their visit; providing information regarding natural, historic, and cultural features; providing information regarding the need for and issuing various permits (camping and backcountry permits), performing backcountry patrols to provide information, guidance and services. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited institution. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above, when combined, equal 100% of the total requirement. (Please note: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours may be used in this calculation.) You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
