Duties

You will server as a Chairperson or member on slate and selection boards for the solicitation of A/E services. You will assist with construction quality assurance by performing code required special inspections or required architectural observation. You will lead multi-disciplinary in-house design teams while providing day-to-day expert technical guidance and support in developing initial project documents. You will serve as a mentor for new architects in the organization. You will plan and lead project design conferences/work sessions and on-site Functional Analysis Concept Development (FACD) with stakeholders to determine project requirements and to develop concept designs. You will be responsible for tracking progress of projects to ensure that they are kept within construction budgets and that the drawings and specifications are completed within allotted design schedules.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.

Qualifications

This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: You must possess a CURRENT Registered Architect (RA) license/registration issued from the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, or any State in the U.S. (NOTE: You must include a copy of your CURRENT license/registration with your application.) In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying expertise in advanced professional Architectural theories, concepts, principles, regulations, and practices to provide authoritative interpretations of guidelines and practices used in the design and construction of new facilities or repair; 2) Serving as an architectural consultant to provide expertise in developing project specifications and design criteria for major architectural and construction projects; 3) Demonstrating leadership stills sufficient to motivate, enthuse, and build respect as well as to coordinate, review, evaluate and lead engineering designs, issues, and situations; 4) Using architectural software such as AutoCAD, Specs-In-Tact technologies, and other related software; and 5) Conducting investigations or leading investigations and studies to formulate and present special reports and formal briefings concerning the status and adequacy of agency architectural and construction projects. Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a bachelor's or higher degree in architecture.

OR

Successful completion of a bachelor's or higher degree in a field related to architecture that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems.

OR

Have a combination of college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. The curriculum for a degree is in either architecture or architectural engineering and covers function, esthetics, site, structure, economics, mechanical-electrical, and other engineering problems related to the design and construction of buildings primarily (but not exclusively) intended to house human activities.
