This full time position is located in the St Louis Office of Hearings and Operations located at 1222 Spruce St, Rm 6.106, St Louis, MO 63103.
This position is being filled on a temporary basis.
The full performance level of this position is GS-12.
Duties
The Paralegal Specialist serves as an authoritative specialist and program expert in the adjudication of Social Security disability and non-disability cases. The incumbent analyzes, researches, and develops cases, formulates comprehensive decisions and otherwise acts on requests for hearings held under Titles II, XVI and XVIII (Part A) of the Social Security Act. Provides technical advice and assistance to the Administrative Law Judges (ALJs) in the review and analysis of cases prior to and after hearings, in the preparation of decisions, and in other post-hearing actions. Participates fully and assists the ALJ in the formulation of the case decision. Writes decisions, notices, and other written materials which are technically correct, conclusively sound, legally sufficient, and in an appropriate manner for claimants and the legal audience.

Qualifications
The following qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level. Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience include experience demonstrating knowledge of SSA benefits programs or case processing; ability to interpret complex laws, rules or regulations; ability to research technical materials; skill in explaining laws, rules or regulations orally and in writing to a wide range of individuals. To be creditable, the experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower grade.

Applicants for promotion must have 52 weeks at the GS-11 or higher.
In addition to the minimum qualifications, applicants must be eligible under ICTAP or Certain Military Spouses.
