This position is located in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)), reporting to the Director of Policy Analysis and Evaluation (PA&E). The OASD(HA) mission is to enable the National Defense Strategy by ensuring a medically ready force, a ready medical force, and improving the health of all those entrusted to the Department of Defense (DoD).

Duties

Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Builds and manages initiatives and plans to improve health service delivery and medical readiness across the MHS. Leads the development of new strategic measures incorporating inputs from leading practices in health policy and public health. Identifies benchmarking opportunities for MHS performance to national and international organizations or allies. Teaches the principles of strategy management and communicates strategic direction of the MHS on behalf of the OASD(HA). Develops lectures, reports to Congress, annual program evaluations, and testimony. Responsible for advising, planning, providing direction, and assisting with the strategic management of the MHS. Responsible for staying abreast of DoD, MHS, and organization polices. Operates as a senior advisor in the field of strategy management, measurement, and improvement science through reviews of the literature, contact with public and private health care providers engaged in similar activities, continuing education, and attendance at national meetings.

  • This position may require occasional travel away from your normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • This position may require you to work other than normal hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays and/or overtime.

Read more about what should I include in my federal resume? at https://www.usajobs.gov/Help/faq/application/documents/resume/what-to-include/ You may qualify at the GS-15 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your experience with management and organizational principles and practices along with a comprehensive knowledge of planning, programming, and/or executing regulations, guidelines, and processes; plan, direct, coordinate, and research multi-faceted programs, projects, and issues through the use of study teams; and develop quality programs, procedures, and methodology to improve the effectiveness and quality of work methods and management controls. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education is not substitutable for specialized experience for this grade level.
