The Materials Handler position is located in the South Texas Veterans Health Care System, Environmental Management Service (EMS), in San Antonio, Texas. The primary purpose of this position is to manage ordering, receive, stock, inventory, and distribute EMS supplies through close work with the Logistics Service and the Generic Inventory Package (GIP) program. The position also serves as the EMS custodial officer for Equipment Inventory Listings (EILs).
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include:
Maintain an adequate level of stock items by initiating requisitions on a weekly and as-needed basis.
Works hand-in-hand with Logistics Service representatives, to assist with the Generic Inventory Package (GIP) program (used in ordering), and serves as the EMS custodial officer for Equipment Inventory Listings (Ells).
Receives incoming supplies, ensures the proper quantities are received, stocks shelves in preparation for issue and makes bulk issues on a weekly and as-needed basis.
Ensures that supplies requested by the outpatient clinics and remote sites are delivered in a timely manner.
Maintains records of expendable supplies received and issued and of expendable and non-expendable equipment.
Takes routine and special inventories, to include the rotation of stock for pandemic flu inventory.
Screens for mandatory sources of supply on IFCAP transactions (90-2237 Request for Supplies Received).
Coordinates deliveries with vendors.
Maintains service Safety Data Sheet (SDS) binders, performing annual chemical inventories and ensuring SDS sheets are kept current.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday through Friday, 8am to 4:30pm

Qualifications
DRIVER'S LICENSE (SCREEN OUT): A current and valid state-issued driver's license is required. NOTE: We cannot accept photographs, therefore; please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package; however, you may be required to bring a copy of your license if you are contacted for an interview.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The working conditions of the incumbent require that he/she stand, stoop, bend, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The incumbent is required to do extensive walking throughout the facility. He/she is required to work at a rapid pace for long periods, frequently lifting and carrying supplies, materials, and equipment that weigh up to 70 pounds.
The incumbent's work is performed inside the EMS Central Stockroom as well as throughout the facility, to deliver, move and/or pick up supplies and furniture. He/she works inside areas that are hot, cold, damp, drafty, and poorly lit. The incumbent is exposed to possible injury from lifting and handling heavy equipment and supplies
