This position serves as an Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner (Family Practice) for the Haskell Indian Health Center located in Lawrence, KS. The purpose of this position is to provide direct and comprehensive primary, preventative and therapeutic medical and nursing care. Incumbent reports to the Clinical Director.

Duties

Provides primary health care to patients of all ages in outpatient clinic. Perform diagnostic services, which include securing medical histories, conducting physical examinations, interpreting laboratory and x-ray results in order to define health problems and ascertain therapy required. Documents data, patient assessment and care plan in acceptable form in the electronic medical record. Performs therapeutic and emergency care procedures, which include dispensing medications, giving injections, administering oxygen, providing wound care, applying cast and splints, performing minor surgical operations and carrying out resuscitative measures in life threatening situations. Performs management of chronic health problems and other ambulatory care services in specialty clinics.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): EDUCATION : A graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited professional nursing educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position - Family Practice. LICENSURE: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination (external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position - Family Practice. In additional to meeting the Basic Requirements for Nurse positions AND Advance Practice Nurse positions listed above, you must also meet the qualifications below for the GS-09 grade level. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION, GS-0610-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks Examples of experience include: Providing direct and comprehensive primary, preventive and therapeutic medical and nursing care to patients related to the specialty for which you are applying. OR Completion of a master's degree in professional nursing. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
