Joining the Secret Service, Technical Security Division, Office of Technical Development and Mission Support will allow you to be involved in research, development, testing and evaluation of technology development and prototyping efforts in the areas of personnel protection; tactical operations support; investigative support and forensics.

Duties

The selectee will serve as Biologist in the USSS OPM Office. Typical work assignments include: Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders on assigned specialized projects in developing operational programs; Promoting best practices and enhancing the agency investigative and protective missions; Testing protocols for new chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosives (CBNRE) detection and mitigation systems; Evaluating state-of-the-art technology for the detection of hazardous materials and other applicable CBNRE related programs; Participating in interagency ad-hoc working groups for CBNRE detection, countermeasures, and protection protocols.

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic Requirements AND Specialized Experience. Requirements listed below: Basic Requirement: A Bachelor's Degree or higher in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. --OR-- A combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. AND Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-12 level (starting salary $99,200.00) if you possess one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 level performing the following duties: Performing biology work in an accredited laboratory (i.e. forensic, toxicology, or environmental laboratory) Utilizing testing and evaluation procedures to support program operations, and Maintaining a quality management system (i.e., maintaining records, adequate inventory of supplies, service agreements, and training records). NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. You qualify for the GS-13 level (starting salary $117,962.00) if you possess one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 level performing the following duties: Performing biology work in an accredited laboratory (i.e., forensic, toxicology, or environmental laboratory), Providing guidance on testing and evaluation procedures or processes to enhance program operations, and Implementing technologies for the detection and testing of hazardous and biological related materials.
