You will serve as a FABRIC WORKER LEADER in the PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT, CODE 990 TEMPORARY SERVICES, SHOP 75 of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will receive requests for work and material from supervisors within shop.
You will assign work to the group.
You will instruct Fabric Workers, Fabric Worker Helpers and Student Trainees (Fabric Worker) on proper work procedures and methods, use of tools and safety pertaining to shop trade skills.
You will give appropriate skills training, utilizing shop training tools such as mock-ups, in shop work areas or facilities, as appropriate, and on deck-plates.
You will demonstrate skills, work procedures and safety precautions to trainees.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Must be a qualified nuclear worker and maintain these qualifications;
Performing all other typical work of a Fabric Worker and leading others in accomplishing Fabric Worker responsibilities;
Operating and setting up heat sealing machines, various types of sewing machines, eyelet or grommet machines, electronic cutting knives, leather splitter, and various hand tools;
Reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, drawings, and work orders;
Applying knowledge of Technical Work Documents (TWDs);
Determining the different grades of canvas, herculite, and polyvinyl chlorides and their particular use.
