This is a developmental position located within USDA Rural Development (RD) designed to provide training and development to prepare the incumbent for advancement to the position of a Loan Technician, GS-1101-7. This is NOT a remote/virtual position. Incumbent will be expected to report to the office.

Duties

Performs a variety of routine tasks and training, to gain experience and knowledge of the loan and grants programs administered by Rural Development. Initiates and prepares a variety of correspondence, maintains records, reports and files. Uses spreadsheets and other automated systems to track items such as program application documents, allocation of funds, and loan/grant servicing activities. Receive incoming phone calls and route to appropriate personnel. Coordinate processing of incoming and outgoing mail for office.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all eligibility and qualifications requirements by the closing date of the announcement as defined below. To be eligible, applicants must meet one of the following requirements; Completed all requirements for an associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational, or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution within the previous two (2) years; or Individuals who, due to military service obligation, were precluded from applying to the Recent Graduates Program during any portion of the 2-year eligibility period described above shall have a full 2-year period of eligibility upon release or discharge from active duty. This eligibility period cannot extend more than 6 years from the date on which the requirements for the academic course of study were met. In addition to meeting the eligibility requirements above, applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. For the GS-04 level: Applicants must possess one (1) year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled, such as, bookkeeping for a financial institution, processing deposits, cashing checks and issuing withdrawals for a financial institution, providing customer service, and or experience assisting as a management/teacher aide OR two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. Equivalent combination of education and experience are qualifying for this grade level. For the GS-05 level: Applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04; or its non-Federal equivalent that demonstrates experience which includes performing a full range of clerical assignments, resolving recurring problems related to a business industry, providing customer service to a wide range of customers, and handling currency, transactions, and confidential information in a responsible manner. Experience may have been gained in work comparable to compiling, maintaining, and updating data, lists, and reports using knowledge of where data is obtained and independently acquiring information to perform standard tasks OR 4 years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. Equivalent combination of education and experience are qualifying for this grade level. NOTE: To be considered for this position, you must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the GS-1101 series set forth in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards by the closing date of the announcement.
