This position is located in Region 6, Deputy Regional Forester, DRM - Data Services, Sandy Clackamas, OR. Support managers and resource specialists in the use of geospatial technology and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for land, natural resources and ecosystem management. Duties

Advise and assist staff on geographic information systems project planning (e.g. timelines, data analysis capabilities, budgeting) and information management considerations. Make recommendations on the development and application of geospatial analysis processes, protocols and solutions to mission critical resource management issues. Provide advice on the implementation, management, analysis, and use of geospatial information. Compile natural resource, topographic, and cartographic data for creation of thematic map products and presentation materials. Operate complex computer systems and software packages and develop procedures to produce intricately detailed maps and graphics for service programs. Coordinate conversion of geospatial information and remote sensing imagery into geographic information system databases Develop and implement geospatial program goals in conjunction with resource management objectives and organizational business requirements. Develop data dictionaries, data models, and metadata for multi-disciplinary information and geospatial applications. Conduct training and provide technical assistance to geographic information system software users in the development, storage, retrieval and analysis of data. Provide leadership, allocate resources, and implement activities to accomplish Forest Service multicultural organization direction, and Equal Opportunity and Civil Rights requirements, goals, policies, and objectives.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-12 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include meeting one or more of the following: Managed project timelines and/or deliverables for natural resource related projects. Organized and maintained resource information and data to facilitate analysis subject areas such as recreation, silviculture, planning, engineering, fire and/or other natural resource programs. Coordinated conversion of geospatial information and remote sensing imagery into geospatial information system databases. Compiled natural resource, topographic, and cartographic data for creation of thematic map products. Developed procedures to produce intricately detailed maps and graphics for natural resource programs and planning documents. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Subject to one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period (unless prior service is creditable). New USDA supervisors must successfully complete all components of the required new supervisory training program before the end of their probationary period.
