About the Position: Works under the general supervision of the Operational Project Manager, Supervisory Natural Resource Management Specialist, Park Manager, or Supervisory Park Ranger who outlines the program objectives and goals in terms of their relationship to the project and District. The incumbent will independently plan detailed steps necessary to manage assigned programs, evaluating and choosing from several alternatives to achieve results consistent with program guidelines.

Duties

Draft plans for facility improvements that are consistent with current and future demands. Prepare draft of annual Operations and Maintenance budgets for assigned programs. Coordinate the short range planning, draft budget development and execution of activities related to the project programs. Administer the conservation, preservation, restoration and use of project natural and cultural resources. Enforce a public safety program that includes surveillance, and maintenance buoys, signs and fences. Perform search and rescue, including missing and lost persons, boating, fishing and hunting accidents, and render first aid to the injured. Interact regularly with the public in high stress emotional and potentially volatile situations. Work closely with other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. Implement resource management actions that promote biodiversity and native species. Coordinate activities with fish and wildlife specialists. Draft and implement specific land use plans for diverse water resources project. Ensure strict enforcement of safe practices and safety regulations. Provide interpretative service for the general public and special groups. Plan, promote and execute special programs such as environmental awareness events and safety programs. Develop and present interpretive programs including slide shows, public speeches and demonstrations. Evaluate interpretive exhibits in the project visitor center and coordinate improvements and upgrades.

Requirements

• Temporary duty travel of 10% may be required.
• May be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Required to wear prescribed uniform as identified in ER 1130-2-550.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
• Possession or ability to acquire Corps of Engineers boat operator's license within 2 years.
• Must complete Park Ranger training requirements (including Visitor Assistance Training, CPR, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, Unarmed Self Defense) within one year.
• Must possess or be able to acquire Title 36 Citation Authority within one year.
• Ability to work nights, weekends and/or holidays depending on the needs of the project.
• May be required to work in adverse weather conditions (e.g. heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.).
• During emergencies, the incumbent may be called on short notice.

OR Superior Academic Achievement: Successful completion of all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement.
