You will serve as a RESEARCH BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SCIENTIST in the HEALTH AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES DEPARTMENT of NAVHLTHRSCHCEN SDIEGO. Duties

You will serve as a senior scientific advisor, providing direction and guidance on scientific and technical activities of the department. You will develop prevention interventions designed to reduce isssue related to psychological and behavioral health problems, such as alcohol and drug abuse, chronic pain and sleep problems. You will use unconventional or novel approaches and sophisticated research techniques to solve complex problems. You will train and oversee research staff in conducting research on military public health.

ALL applicants must meet the Basic Requirements: Successful completion of Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position (Must submit transcripts w/application for consideration) - Social Science Series 0101 (opm.gov) FOR GS-14 In addition to the meeting the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Planning, designing, developing, and executing innovative research projects that involve the development and evaluation of interventions to enhance behavioral health and performance in operational environments; Defining operational problems that can be addressed through psychological and behavioral health research, (i.e., reviewing/assessing empirical literature- developing research protocols; collecting /analyzing data to meet project goals; evaluating the feasibility of potential solutions; and identifying practical applications for research results, etc..); Preparing manuscripts, reports, briefings, and presentations on topics in the area of military public health to compete for research funding; Developing, implementing, and empirically evaluating health promotion interventions and behavioral change strategies w/respect to their effects on a diverse group of people, (e.g., service member), health and readiness to plan, design, develop and execute innovative research for enhance behavioral health and performance in operational environments; Training and overseeing research staff in conducting research on public health, (e.g., military public health). FOR GS-13 In addition to the meeting the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Planning and carrying out clinical trials that may require modification of existing procedures in multiple concurrent and/or sequential phases w/coordination of both internal and external collaborators; Solving complex problems often requiring unconventional or novel approaches and sophisticated research techniques in a series of conceptually related programmed research efforts, and to provide guidance for other scientists who are also engaged in complex, long-term projects; Defining operational problems that can be addressed through behavioral health research, (e. g., reviewing and assesses relevant empirical literature; developing detailed research protocols; collecting and analyzing data to meet project goals; evaluates the feasibility of potential solutions; and identifies practical applications for research results); Facilitating utilization and implementation of departmental research results through high-level briefings, reports, manuscripts, and presentations presented to operational and scientific organizations; AND Evaluating the effectiveness of processes in terms of scientific quality standards; procedural, policy, and regulatory compliance; and technical competence. Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field
