About the Position: Employee is responsible for organizing, planning, coordinating, managing and leading airfield operations at Redstone Army Airfield, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.
Duties
Organize, plan, coordinate and lead airfield operations while interpreting guidelines to accomplish mission objectives.
Manage airfield infrastructure and maintains status of airfield facilities and equipment to include buildings, grounds, etc.
Serve as Installation Air Traffic and Airspace Officer and provide airspace briefings, process airspace violations, and submits notices of construction to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Manage the airfield driving training program; instruct organizations on safe operating procedures and pedestrian movement. Set performance standards and establishes task priority.
Coordinate aircraft movement and the loading and unloading of hazardous cargo on the airfield with flying units, tenants, and supporting organizations.
Prepare and input budget requirements for the division and develop written policies and procedures to include the Airfield Operations Manual and Standard Operating Procedures.
Arrange and validate Joint Operational Support Airlift Command (JOSAC), Air Mobility Command and authorized military/civilian flights for Very Important Persons and special airlift mission.
Ensure the even flow and distribution of work, the expeditious handling of priority assignments, and the meeting of schedules and deadlines.

Explain work requirements, methods, and procedures as needed and give special instructions on unusual or one-time work situations and implements new or revised procedures.
Conduct airfield inspections to ensure compliance with DOD and other federal guidelines and identify airfield discrepancies and initiate plans, executes, and monitors and controls airfield infrastructure improvement projects.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent will be required to participate in contingencies readiness exercises and major accident response exercises.
- May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays.
- May be required to perform 25% TDY travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
- Pre-employment drug test and random drug testing while in position. Must sign DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for Certain Positions Identified as Critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

(1) Position may be filled as a temporary promotion or change to lower grade NTE 13 months by a current permanent Army employee. Temporary promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Position may be made permanent without further competition (for current Army employee only).
(2) Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 3 years if the candidate is not a current permanent Army employee. Term appointments may be extended up to a maximum of six years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond 6 six years, but not more than 8 years.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes planning, coordinating and leading day-to-day airfield operations, interpreting guidelines provided by higher headquarters and determining the means to accomplishing the mission, managing flight planning and flight data processing, managing airfield training and developing policies and procedures.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone (at the GS12 level) no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
