Duties

As a Biologist you will: Design, oversee, implement, and conduct biological scientific surveys/studies or projects to identify and solve problems. Identify and analyze scientific issues and their impact on operations that are critical to the public health community at large. Review and analyze public health laboratory training needs to formulate recommendations for the development of laboratory quality and safety training programs and practices. Provide expert scientific advice, consultation, and leadership in designing, coordinating, and maintaining laboratory quality, safety, and regulatory affairs training project goals, objectives, and priorities within a CIO and/or CDC/ATSDR and in the general public health community.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Applicant has a bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which must include experience in providing training and instruction in laboratory quality and safety; implementing and maintaining laboratory safety and quality system requirements; and making recommendations for safety and quality improvement. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
