This position is a Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-8 working in Rupert, Idaho, for the Southeast Idaho National Wildlife Refuge Complex. This position is also open to status candidates under announcement R1-24-12273545-CL-MP. You must apply to each announcement separately if you wish to be considered under both recruitment methods.

Duties

As a Maintenance Worker, your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: Operate and maintain heavy motorized equipment (e.g., forklift, dump truck, farm agricultural tractor and implements, rubber-tired backhoe/loader, skid steer, excavator, bulldozer) and other pieces of equipment as needed for project activities. Operate ATVs (all-terrain vehicles), pick-up trucks, cars or vans over rough, uneven terrain or unimproved roads. Operate, maintain, and repair various types of light duty equipment including chainsaws, weed eaters, ATVs, utility vehicles (UTVs), generators, etc. Perform minor plumbing repairs to facilities. Perform basic electrical repairs involving replacing, tightening, splicing, soldering and insulating defective wiring controls, equipment and fixtures.

  • Drug Testing Position: Selectee tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Medical Requirements: Selectee may require a pre-employment medical examination and may be subject to post-employment medical examinations to determine if they are maintaining the fitness standards for this position.
  • Driver’s License: Selectee required to possess and maintain a valid State driver's license at all times during their tenure.
  • CDL - Duties of this position require the employee to obtain and maintain a valid Class A State Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to operate various vehicles and equipment.
  • Uniform: Official U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service uniform required.
  • Probationary Period: Selectee may be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • The employee may perform collateral duty as a firefighter which requires the ability to obtain and maintain Red Card Certification and maintain rigorous physical readiness condition.

Qualifications

By the closing date of this announcement, you must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Handbook X118C, Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupation. http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/x-118c/ Although no specific amount of experience, education or training is required, applicants must meet a minimum level of ability in relation to the position and the Assessment Questionnaire in order to be rated qualified for consideration. To be qualified candidates must meet any screen out element(s) listed at an "acceptable" level, and must achieve an average rating of at least "acceptable" on all of the elements. Only education, training, or experience acquired before the closing date of this announcement will be considered. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements. The screen out element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. Operation of Motor Vehicles Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Knowledge of Materials Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
