Appeals Analysts are responsible for conducting independent and impartial reviews of first appeals filed by public entities related to the FEMA Public Assistance program. This includes determining the validity, reviewing relevant documentation and evidence, making recommendations for resolution, and drafting responses to first appeals. They may also participate in audits of the FEMA Public Assistance program, reviewing financial records and documentation, and preparing reports on audit findings.

Duties

What will I do in this position if hired? In this Appeals Analyst position, you will be responsible for conducting independent and impartial reviews of first appeals filed by public entities related to the FEMA Public Assistance program; this includes determining the validity of appeals, reviewing relevant documentation and evidence, making recommendations for resolution of the appeals, and drafting responses to first appeals using legal writing techniques to explain eligibility determinations based on legal and technical criteria. Qualifications

To qualify for this Appeals Analyst position at the IC-12 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the IC-11 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the Federal or Private Sector and must demonstrate all of the following: Analyzing facts and issues related to Public Assistance programs to identify trends or patterns and support decision making; Drafting written analysis of findings that communicate facts and determinations for leadership review with a focus on legal and/or technical writing, including the ability to prepare clear and concise reports and/or letters; and Researching and interpreting applicable laws, statutes, regulations and policies related to the subject matter of the appeal, preferably in the context of government programs or disaster assistance.
