Incumbent serves as program coordinator at the GS-12 grade and is administratively responsible for staff supervision and oversight in the Acute Care areas DD.The incumbent will have leadership skills and knowledge with both Medical and Mental Health patients and policies. The incumbent will provide direct supervision to staff assigned in Acute Care, CCU/Surgery areas
Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to:
- Administers information and analytical systems to evaluate and enhance the quality of service provided to patients. Serves as a member of Social Work Service leadership.
- Develops and implements information systems to track service activities including visits, referrals, inpatient days, discharge planning/patient flow and patient satisfaction.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates clinical guidelines and protocols to establish appropriate utilization of services.
- The incumbent supervises a group of employees performing work at various GS levels up to their own grade and provides administrative, technical, and clinical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit.
- Incumbent establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff, which are clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system.
- Provides formal feedback and evaluates employee performance.
- Incumbent will develop policies and establish practices relative to assigned areas.
- Incumbent serves on various Social Work Service and Medical Center workgroups and engages in performance improvement activities.
- Incumbent is able to supervise employees to accomplish the work of the organizational unit.
- Exercises supervisory authority and responsibility involving work assignments and review, as well as the administrative and personnel management functions relative to the staff supervised.
- The incumbent performs a wide range of services and provides technical assistance to state, local, and private agencies, and universities.
- Performs work related to the review, monitoring, analysis, planning and assessment various programs.
- The incumbent is responsible to the Supervisory Social Worker Inpatient/ ED services and the Chief, SWS but practices independently, exercising full initiative and independent judgement in day to day leadership activities.
- In unusual and/or complex administrative and clinical problems, the incumbent initiates consultation with the Chief/Patient Service Line Manager as well as with other authoritative resources at the Medical Center, such as Regional - Counsel, Business Services, Fiscal, and Human Resource Management Services.
- Consistently communicates and treats customers (Veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Exercises ICARE values.
Performs other duties as assigned by Social Work Service Leadership.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00AM - 4:30PM. Tour of duty subject to change based on agency needs.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work.
Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found by going to http://vaww.va.gov/OHRM/T38Hybrid/.
English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f).
Grade Determinations: In addition to meeting the basic requirements stated above, the following qualifications criteria must be met in determining the appropriate grade assignment of candidates.
GS-12 Social Worker (Program Coordinator)
Experience and Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.
Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs
(a) Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring.
(b) Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program.
(c) Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program.
(d) Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s).
(e) Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice.
Grade Determinations: The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-12.

Physical Requirements: Extended periods of standing, bending and carrying light items such as books, medical records and paper is
required. Walking long distance throughout the medical center, on units and between divisions is required. Conducting patient encounters in a community setting or in the patient's home environment may be required. Position often places the incumbent in a position of stress. Due to the nature of the work, the incumbent may come in contact with Veteran patients who are confused, intoxicated or have a contagious condition. Ability to
drive a car have a valid state license is required. Exposure to dangerous situations in the community from traffic
accidents to crime is also possible.
