You will serve as a CABLE SPLICER (COMMUNICATIONS) in the Base Comm. Dept. of NAVAL COMP TELCOM AREA WESTPAC. THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT. Section 1109 of the National Defense Authorization Act Fiscal Year 2020 Public Law 116-92 amended Section 9905 of title 5, United States Code (U.S.C.) to streamline and simplify certain Department of Defense civilian Direct Hire Authorities to recruit and appoint qualified candidates directly to certain positions in the competitive service in the DoD.

Duties

You will locate and repair faulty telephone, fiber optic, and control cables for quality assurance. You will test repaired, newly installed, or updated equipment to verify functionality and conformance to specifications. You will analyze test readings, computer printouts, and trouble reports to determine cable repair needs and methods. You will use a voltmeter, phase rotation meter, amp meter, industrial analyzer, optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR), ground meter, or ohmmeter to test circuits and communications equipment.

• This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.

• This position is a Cyber Workforce position in specialty area 44/441. You must obtain and maintain qualifications in accordance with DON Cyber IT/CSWF Program requirements to SECNAV M-5239.2.
• You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• Incumbent “may” be coded as “key” and as such may be required be removed from their military recall status. A signed statement of understand required.
• Incumbent will be required to obtain a Federal Government Operators Permit to drive and operate line trucks, and hydraulic aerial lift equipment.
