We expect to fill 2 vacancy/vacancies at this time; however, additional positions may be filled from this announcement if they become available.

Duties

In this position you will serve as a Public Safety Dispatcher. Typical duties include: Performing dispatch and call taking services for public safety related incidents and operations; receiving and evaluating calls for service; obtaining information through questioning and determining the priority of the call. Performing general Communications Center clerical duties such as data entry, quality, records management, inventories, and verification and maintenance of contact listings. Operating a multi-frequency radio console; coordinating use of radio frequencies, directing radio traffic to appropriate channels, and restricting channels to emergency use as necessary. Serving as primary point of contact for law enforcement and other public safety responders monitoring traffic and assisting operations. Serving as a certified operator of National Criminal Information Network (NCIC), National Law Enforcement Communication System (NLETS), and State criminal information networks (i.e., ACCESS, TLETS, VCIN, etc.).

  • You must be able to obtain and hold a Secret Security clearance.
  • Appointment will be subject to a favorably adjudicated background/suitability investigation/determination.
  • May require a one year probationary period.
  • Supervisory Probationary Period: If you are selected for this position, you will be required to serve a one year supervisory/managerial probationary period if one has not previously been completed.
  • This position may require regular and recurring overtime and shift work.
  • You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
  • A valid Driver's Lisense is required.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-06 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements: Have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties: Performing clerical work in direct support of an emergency or law enforcement communications center; Transmitting and receiving law enforcement or emergency communications (e.g., law enforcement, emergency medical, search and rescue, structural or wildland fire, or other operational situations) via multi-channel radio and computer-based telephone systems; and Entering and updating information related to incidents (i.e. case notes, summary of events, etc.) in law enforcement or emergency information systems. You qualify for the GS-07 if you possess at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties: Applying dispatch procedures and guidelines used in dispatch of personnel, fire, and other incidents; Receiving, filling & tracking requests for assistance to law enforcement; Providing logistical support information to ensure public safety officers are able to locate emergency situations; and Recording and maintaining records such as communicating logs. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies". Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You MUST meet all qualification requirements, including Time-in-Grade, by the closing date of this announcement. Qualification AND time-in-grade claims will be subject to verification. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.
