This position is located within a National Forest. The primary purpose of this position is to perform operation of motor vehicles.

Duties

Operates one or more motor vehicles including cargo vans, stake trucks, dump trucks, platform trucks, and buses (capacity of more than 20 passengers), which typically have gross vehicle weight between 16,000 and 32,000 pounds. Vehicles usually have air brakes and two or more gear ranges capable of providing six or more forward speeds. Vehicles are driven on and off roads, through all kinds of traffic, terrain, and weather to haul cargo or passengers, and/or tow equipment. Loads and unloads vehicle, and sees that cargo is loaded and secured properly and protected. Ensures that towed equipment is properly connected and allowable for the tow vehicle used. Responsible for vehicle maintenance, inspection, and recordkeeping. Major maintenance needs are brought to the supervisor's attention. Operator maintenance typically involves monitoring fluid levels, replacing air filters and interior lights, checking tire pressure and hose connections, and washing the vehicle.

Requirements

  • Position is required to drive vehicles that require a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License, based on type or kind of equipment being operated.

Operation of Motor Vehicles Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation) Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) Reliability and Dependability as an Engineering Equipment Operator. There is no substitution of education for this position. Selective Placement Factors DRUG TESTING: This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). Selectee must submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and random testing thereafter. Final appointment and continued employment is conditional on negative results for illegal drug use. This announcement constitutes 30 days advance notice. The position requires that the incumbent must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Position is required to drive vehicles that require a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License, based on type or kind of equipment being operated. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
