This position is located within a National Forest. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an aid (either performing general duties or focused on more specific areas such as Forest Health Protection/Pest management implementation) performing routine tasks under a higher graded technician or professional.

Duties

Assists technical or professional personnel in performing various routine field and/or laboratory tests employing standard biological techniques. Independently does routine repetitive tasks on experiments or tests. Receives training and performs a variety of simple and routine tasks. Receives training and assists in experiments that are more complex or field work.

  • You must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. For more information on the qualifications for this position, visit the Office of Personnel Management's General Schedule Qualification Standards. Your application and resume must clearly show that you possess the experience requirements. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Provide course descriptions as necessary. GS-03: Applicants must have six months of any type of work that demonstrated the ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation; OR one year of education above high school (45 quarter or 30 semester hours) that included at least 6 semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics; OR combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience; OR completion of an intensive, specialized course of study of less than one year at a technical school or through a military or government sponsored training program that was designed specifically as career preparation for the work of the position being filled. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, technical school, junior college, college or university. Examples of General Experience includes: Farm/ranch labor, such as feeding and tending livestock or general maintenance of farm/ranch facilities. OR work in a greenhouse, nursery or landscape business tending plants and performing general labor tasks. OR work as an animal caretaker in a laboratory, zoo or pet store. OR other work experience, paid or unpaid, that demonstrates an ability to learn and perform the work of this position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
