This position is located in Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, in the Interpretation & Education Division. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area is April-September but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Duties

Collects appropriate fees at park visitor center, campground and other visitor contact station following established accountability guidelines for handling government funds. Safeguards funds collected. Operates an electronic cash register, performs opening and closing shift functions, issues entrance receipts, park passes and federal passports. Troubleshoots accounting problems by correcting difficult errors that unsolvable by others which involve correction of related reports. Serves as the front-line representative of the park. In many instances, the incumbent is the first and only contact the visiting public as with an NPS employee. Works at a visitor center, campground or other visitor contact station. Provides public orientation and explanations of current park events, resource management projects, management policies and legislative updates affecting the park area. Provides current and accurate information to visitors concerning the NPS area and other surrounding areas of interest. Explains the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession-operated facilities and services, and campground availability; provides directions and routes of travel through the park; and informs visitors of potential hazards. Conducts informal talks with groups of visitors regarding park resources. Completes shift reports to verify money collected, accountable stock sold and all machine transactions from the shift using journal and receipt tapes and a register of voided transactions. Prepares remittance reports and bank deposits for funds collected. Maintains necessary accountability records. Creates informational materials to post in public viewing areas. Prepares responses to request for information. Operates audio visual and electronic equipment (e.g., film projectors, DVD players, computers, etc.) to provide area information to visitors. Operates fee collection computer software programs such as PCC-OTC, TGA Net, or experience using software programs for the reconciliation and remittance of funds. Communicates using a radio. Operates computer software programs such as word processing, spreadsheet or data base. Assist in orientation and on the job training for new coworkers. Assesses a situation to determine the appropriate response in accordance with park policy guidelines. Gathers information from reporting parties concerning accidents/incidents within the area to notify appropriate personnel. Performs traffic control and treatment of medical issues with-in your level of training. Performs minor maintenance duties to insure a clean and safe work environment.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-02/03/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of general experience obtained in either the public or private sectors. This experience includes activities such as: clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. You must include hours per week worked in your resume or you will not receive consideration for this position. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 2 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. You must include transcripts if qualifying based on education. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determine your education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; then add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
