As a supervisor/manager, the selectee for this position will be eligible to receive a Manager Performance Incentive (MPI) provided eligibility requirements noted in agency policy are met. The MPI is an annual lump-sum incentive payment that considers agency performance, the manager's individual performance, and available funding.The Supervisory Aviation Safety Inspector will manage a Flight Standards organization.

Duties

The manager is responsible for aviation safety activities in a complex and dynamic air carrier and/or general aviation environment that includes experience in one or more of the following specialties: Operations, Avionics, Maintenance, Dispatch, and Cabin Safety. Applies an advanced knowledge of the technical aspects of the work directed and ensures the promotion of the highest level of safety compliance with regulatory standards while utilizing transparency of data exchange that includes the identification of hazards and management of risk.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must submit an SF50 (See Required Documents)
  • Security Requirement: Moderate Risk (5). This position requires completion and favorable adjudication of a background investigation prior to appointment, unless a waiver is obtained. Subject to a 5 year period reinvestigation.

All Applicants must meet Office of Personnel Management Qualifications Standards for the applicable 1825 Aviation Safety Series (Air Carrier/General Aviation Operations/Maintenance/Avionics) specialty; or Human Resource Policy Manual Chapter Supplements for the Rotorcraft-Helicopter, Aircraft Dispatch or Cabin Safety specialty. Certificate and Ratings:This position requires rating(s) and/or certificate(s) for minimum qualification in one of the following specialties: General Aviation Maintenance, Air Carrier Maintenance, General Aviation Operations, Air Carrier Operations, Rotorcraft Helicopter, Aircraft Dispatch or Cabin Safety. A copy of the rating(s) and/or certificate(s) are required for all candidates newly appointed to the FAA for a given 1825 Series specialty.Applicants must submit rating(s) and/or certificate(s) unless they are currently occupying (or previously held) a position in one of the above mentioned 1825 Series specialties.Specialized Experience: To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-J, FG/GS-14 level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes: Experience monitoring and evaluating programs for compliance with regulations and standards related to aviation safety. Experience with the federal laws, regulations, and policies affecting aviation safety and the work directed.
