THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. NEW MEXICO AIR NATIONAL GUARD **This is an indefinite position** This National Guard position is for a PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT, Position Description Number T6002P01 and is part of the NM 150th SOW Medical Group, National Guard.

Duties

The purpose of this position is to provide a fulltime, experienced Physician Assistant /Nursing (Practitioner) to support the planning, scheduling, execution, management, and administration of installation-wide medical management including, aerospace and operational disposition and clinical judgment for medical case management to promote and maintain the health and well-being of assigned Air National Guard (ANG) personnel. Uses clinical skills and knowledge to complete comprehensive medical and physical assessments,and preventative medical services for assigned ANG personnel. Using professional knowledge of and skill in applying a wide range of Aerospace, Occupational and Preventative Medicine practices, principles and theories, the incumbent: Independently carries out assignments, coordinating with others as necessary and discussing scope of the assignment, approaches, timeframes, and execution phases with leadership; exercising good judgment in accordance with the methods and practices of the community health nursing and established medical/administrative policies affecting ANG readiness. Performs comprehensive medical assessments including, but not limited to, annual preventive health, pre- and post-deployment interviews, and deployment health assessments; pre-placement,occupational health, and separation health physical exams; fitness for duty evaluations; line of duty, and medical continuation determinations. Utilizes extended specialized training and experience to review, compare, and interpret complex medical standards, policies and laws and provide sound recommendations. This includes, but is not limited to, reviewing DD Form 2992, "Medical Recommendations for Flying or Special / Operational Duty Log", summarizing findings and reporting to the Deployment Availability Working Group. Coordinates with inter-disciplinary teams to gather facts and uses effective analytical and evaluativemethods to prepare healthcare recommendations of an advanced nature and considerable difficultylevel. Utilizes knowledge of military medical organizational structure, policies and procedures to independently review records/referrals and recommend appropriate aeromedical and operational dispositions online of duty and medical continuation determinations; separation history and physical exams; incapacitation pay; convalescent leave; and the need for disability evaluation system processing. Conducts records review and face to face meetings relating to the Exceptional Family Member Program. Provides Aerospace Medicine support. Utilizing extended specialized training and professional experience in applying a wide range of concepts, principles, and methodologies of patient care services sufficient to perform highly specialized assignments of an advanced nature and considerable difficulty; monitors assigned ANG personnel to enhance aircrew health and safety and prepare/update case management records for personnel with duty, deployment or fitness restrictions. Actively participates in strategic planning to improve organizational direction as a member of theprofessional medical staff. Develops, coordinates, and provides training and continuing education on infection control andBlood borne Pathogens, Multi Drug Resistance colonization/infection, Tuberculosis and otherinfectious processes to health care providers, other health care personnel, patients, and families.Reviews audiovisual aids and materials available for infection control to assist in education of clinicpersonnel as well as patients and families. Provides analytical, evaluation, monitoring and reporting support on Individual Medical Readinessfor ANG Wing, tenants, and geographically separated unit personnel. Utilizes extensive medical knowledge to ensure compliance with and preparation for readiness ofunit compliance inspections, evaluations, audits, and staff assistance visits including uniteffectiveness inspections. Serves as the ANG Wing point of contact for professional medical guidance and advice related to medical and dental health benefits regulations outlined by the National Defense Authorization Act and through the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense, Health Affairs. Serves as the ANG Medical Unit point of contact for professional medical guidance to the Military Entrance Processing Stations and the Air Reserve Component/Case Management Division; Accession Medical Waiver Division and NGB. Provides a wide range of policy guidance and medical interpretations to senior management officials to ensure compliance with medical aspects for the worldwide deploy ability of assigned ANG personnel. Works directly with Leadership at all levels including the Wing Commander, the State's ANG Director of Staff, State's Assistant - Adjutant General for Air (ATAG), the State's TAG, and NGB/SG. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must maintain current state licensure, Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or other named specialties.

  • This is an Inclement Weather position. Incumbent may be required to report for or remain on duty during inclement weather.
  • The work of this position may require rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, holidays, and/or on-call duty hours.
  • Incumbent may be required to participate in contingency readiness exercises, major accident response exercises, and investigations.
  • Successful completion of formal education and training as a Physician’s Assistant or Nurse Practitioner from a program that is recognized by a national professional body.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain privileging for the DOD/AFMS/ANGMS IAW DHA PM 6025-13Vol 4 and DAFMAN 44-119.
  • Must maintain credentials requirements at all times (i.e. current and unrestricted state license, BLS, clinical competencies, etc.) IAW DHA PM 6025-13 Vol 4 and DAFMAN44-119. 6/14/2022 TCPC Cramner.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain privileging for the DOD/AFMS/ANGMS IAW DHA PM 6025-13 Vol 4 and DAFMAN 44-119.
  • Must maintain credentials requirements at all times (i.e. current and unrestricted state license, BLS, clinical competencies, etc.)
  • This position will not exceed 40 hours per pay period.
  • This is an indefinite position that will not exceed August 31 2024
  • The continuation of this job is contingent upon organization’s ability to secure funding.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant equivalent to the next lower grade level and completion of an accredited physician assistant educational program is required.

Education

Licensure

  • For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
GS-12
  • Completion of Doctorate of Physician Assistant Studies, Doctorate of Science Physician Assistant (DScPA) or equivalent; or
  • Completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in a related health field and completion of an accredited physician assistant educational program. Examples of related doctoral degree programs include, but are not limited to, public health; allied health field; public health education; or other related health science programs; or
  • A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant equivalent to the GS-9 grade level and completion of an accredited physician assistant educational program as described above.
